About BCR Basements

Built on one question: what would I want if it were my home?

BCR Basements was founded by Quacy Barry after 20 years of watching this industry fail homeowners in ways it didn’t have to. So he built a company around a different standard.

The founder

Quacy Barry. Builder. Developer. Entrepreneur.

Quacy Barry knew he wanted to build since he was five years old. That’s not a story crafted for a website: it’s just true. While other kids were doing other things, he was watching how structures went together and asking why they were built the way they were.

He moved to Canada over 20 years ago and spent two decades doing exactly what he came here to do: building. Construction projects, renovation companies, client relationships, and operating businesses across Durham Region and Toronto. He didn’t start BCR as a second career. He built it as the natural next step of a lifetime in construction.

What started BCR wasn’t ambition alone. It was frustration. After two decades on job sites and in boardrooms, Quacy had seen the same pattern repeat: homeowners trusting contractors with significant money, and contractors, not all of them, but enough: failing to treat that trust with the seriousness it deserved.

Free quotes that became expensive surprises. Timelines that evaporated. Finishes that didn’t match what was agreed. And no mechanism anywhere in the process that protected the homeowner.

BCR was built to be that mechanism. Fixed prices in writing. A timeline with financial accountability behind it. A process built around a single question: what would I want if it were my home?

Quacy is also the founder of the BackHome Group, a privately held portfolio of construction and development companies operating across Guyana and Canada. BCR is the Canadian arm: and the company that started it all.

“This industry often doesn’t treat people the way they deserve. I built BCR to change that: at least in the projects we take on.”

What we stand for

How BCR is different, and why it matters

These aren’t values that went on a wall. They’re the decisions that shaped how BCR works.

Transparency before commitment

We don't give you a number until we've done the homework. That's why we charge for the Feasibility Assessment: and why the number we give you is real.

Accountability with consequences

The BCR Promise puts real money behind our commitments. If we're late, we pay. If it's not perfect, you don't pay. That's not a slogan: it's in your contract.

Your home, your standard

The question we ask on every project is the same: what would we want if this were our home? Every trade, every finish, every decision runs through that filter.

Education over persuasion

The Basement Authority Podcast, the Learning Centre, the published cost guides: we believe the most educated homeowner is the best client. We teach everything, including how to evaluate our competitors.

Time is money: yours and ours

We don't run late. Not because we're lucky, but because we plan. Every project gets a real timeline and the trades to back it up. The $1,000/week penalty exists because we mean it.

Right fit over more clients

BCR isn't the right company for every project or every homeowner. We say that openly. The homeowners who choose us should be the ones who value quality, accountability, and a process that protects them.

The company

Where we build. How we're set up.

BCR Basements Inc., also operating as BCR Design Build: is a Durham Region and Toronto-based design-build renovation company specialising in basement finishing, legal suite construction, and major home remodels.

We are a fully independent Canadian brand. BCR is part of the BackHome Group, a privately held portfolio of construction and development companies founded by Quacy Barry and operating across Canada and Guyana: but BCR operates independently in the Canadian market, focused entirely on GTA homeowners.

Our trades are vetted, long-term relationships: not whoever’s available. Every sub-contractor who works on a BCR project has been qualified against our standards and has agreed to our timeline and quality commitments. When we sign your contract, that commitment runs all the way down the chain.

BASEMENT
AUTHORITY
PODCAST

BY BCR BASEMENTS

Real answers. No pitch. Every episode.

The Basement Authority is the only podcast in the GTA dedicated entirely to basement renovation, legal suite strategy, and homeowner education. Hosted by Quacy Barry, each episode covers the questions homeowners are actually asking, cost, permits, what goes wrong, how to hire right: with straight answers and no sales agenda.

Marcus Sheridan calls it the most powerful trust-building content format for high-stakes, high-cost service businesses. We agree. That’s why we built it.
