The Basement Planning Checklist

Permits, real costs, moisture, layout, and the order things need to happen in. Includes the ceiling height rule that catches most people out: a legal basement apartment has a LOWER height requirement than a plain finished rec room. If somebody has told you your basement is too low, read page three before you believe them.

Read this first, before you talk to anybody.

5 Red Flags Before You Sign

Five warning signs that show up before a single wall goes up. A quote inside 48 hours with no site visit. No mention of permits. A deposit of 40 to 50 percent. A one-page quote with a total and nothing itemised. And the word estimate where the word price should be.

Read this when you have quotes in front of you.

The Pre-Drywall Walkthrough

If your basement is framed but the drywall is not up yet, this is the one moment that matters. Protector plates over the wiring, blocking for anything heavy going on the wall later, the rim joist, and photographing every stud bay before it closes. Once the walls go on, everything behind them is a guess.

Read this if your project is already under way, whoever is building it.

Why there is no form

Because a form would tell you something about us.

Every one of these could sit behind an email capture. Most companies would. Then the guide arrives, and so does a sequence of emails you did not ask for, and by the third one you are wondering how to unsubscribe.

We publish our prices, our build specification and our warranty terms without asking for anything either. It is the same principle. If the work is good, you will come back on your own.
