There are not many companies in Durham Region offering accessible bathroom conversions as a named service. Searching for one turns up two established names, ourselves, and then a long list of general renovators who will take the work if you ask.
Here is an honest read on the three, including which situations point away from us. Everything below comes from each company’s own published material.
Complete Works Construction — Pickering
A full-service general contractor of twenty years, working across Durham Region. Accessible bathrooms sit alongside kitchens, basements, home additions, decks, condo work and commercial renovation, and they run a dedicated Accessible & Senior section covering bathrooms, home modifications and in-law suites.
They are BBB listed, HomeStars verified, a CommunityVotes Pickering winner, and an affiliate of SeniorCareAccess.com. They offer free consultations, free estimates and free accessibility assessments, senior and disability discounts, and financing. Their service area reaches beyond Durham to Stouffville and Port Perry.
Choose them if you want one contractor for several projects at once, you want a free estimate before committing to anything, a senior discount matters to your budget, or you are outside our service area.
What you will not find published is a price or a timeline. Their site quotes a range of roughly $10,000 to $40,000 in an FAQ, and no number of days the bathroom is out of use.
Hayes Plumbing — Durham Region
A plumbing company that has extended into senior and accessible bathroom renovations, in-law suites and accessory apartments. They cover a wide area including Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Courtice, Bowmanville, Clarington, Uxbridge, Port Perry and Orono, and offer a senior discount on accessible projects and a free consultation.
Choose them if the job is plumbing-led. Old galvanized supply, a drain that has to move a long way, or a house where the plumbing is the real problem and the bathroom is downstream of it. A plumbing company solving a plumbing problem is the right tool.
Worth asking about is the finishing trades. Waterproofing, tile and glass are a different discipline from pipework, and it is fair to ask who does that part and whether they are in-house.
BCR — that is us
Twenty years building in Ontario, based in Durham Region, and accessible bathroom conversions run as a service line of a basement and bathroom design-build company rather than as a separate brand.
Four fixed prices published on the site. A completion date written into the contract. A seven-year warranty. And a $497 Home Safety Assessment rather than a free estimate.
Choose us if you want a number that does not move, a date with money behind it, and a build specification you can hand to an occupational therapist.
Do not choose us if you need it done next week, your budget is under $2,800, you want a free estimate, or you are outside Durham Region and Toronto.

The real difference, and it is not quality
All three of us can build a safe bathroom. The difference is what you know before you commit.
Two of the three lead with a free assessment and no published price. That is the normal model in this trade and there is nothing dishonest about it — but it means the number arrives after somebody has been in your house, and it means the visit is a sales call, because nobody is paying for it.
We charge $497 for ninety minutes and publish the prices in advance. It filters out most enquiries, which is the point. It also means nobody has a reason to talk you into anything at your kitchen table.
Which model suits you is a real question
If you are early and gathering information, a free estimate costs you nothing and you should get two or three. If you have already had three free estimates and the numbers were all different, that is the point at which paying somebody to measure properly starts to look like the cheaper option.
The question none of the three of us can answer for you
How many days can the bathroom be out of use.
Ask all three. Get a number rather than a range, and ask what happens if they run over. It is the constraint that stops more of these projects than money does, and the answer tells you more about how a company plans work than anything else you will hear.
Beyond these three
There are also the one-day liner specialists, walk-in tub companies and tub cutout retrofitters, which are different kinds of work again rather than different price points. The full comparison of all five kinds of company covers those, and says which situations point away from us.
Before you call any of us
Six questions, two minutes, no charge. Find out which option her bathroom can actually take, roughly what it costs, and what might get in the way.
Every claim about another company here is taken from their own website and was accurate at the time of writing. Services, pricing models and service areas change — check directly before deciding. If we have described your company inaccurately, tell us and we will correct it.
